New Year Update

Hey folks,

It's been quite some time, I initially had this devlog planned for a couple months ago, but some employment issues got in the way - now those are over, and it's a new year, so I think I can start kicking back into things.

I've been working on a new enemy called the "Gorgon", inspiration for this enemy is a mix between the gameplay aspect of static area denial, and also from the Greek Mythology aspects of the game - I wanted to mimic the gorgon's dangerous gaze, so why not make something like a giant laser?

Well, a few reasons, one- no I'm just kidding I made a giant laser.

unfortunately it's kinda hard to show off, itch doesn't seem to like any of the MP4s I made. but these guys are showing the gist of it - this enemy uses the player's position to cut off access to parts of the screen, making a static hazard. The gorgon can be killed and their laser will be destroyed, and the player's shield will block the laser, allowing for safe maneuvers past it in a pinch.

Still have a bit of work to do - the art for the enemy isn't finalized, and a little bit of code to limit the number of repositions is still required.

The nice thing about this laser though is it's built into the weapon itself, so if I want to, for instance, add this onto any other enemy I could. I can also move the weapon and the laser moves with it, so I can expand on maybe a large pinwheel variant that has these weapons.

I also added weakpoints - the whole spiel of the gorgon is it's armored on the front, and very hard to kill until it's opened up and deployed, I took that idea and added it to the other enemies as well:

Those purple round parts will be animated at some point, I'll probably make them have a slow color pulse or something, but when hit they deal extra damage. I figured this would reward getting precise shots, and also could introduce enemies that are immune on any spot that isn't their weakpoint for a boss/challenging enemy.

I'll try to be more on top of updates this year, things are kinda settled so I should be able to get a routine set up.
