New Enemy Added: The Pursuer


After around 2 months we have our newest enemy- The Pursuer. A glass cannon that fights a bit dirty, Pursuers will flank the player from behind, making the back half of the screen extremely perilous to stay in, which forces the player forward, into pinwheels and other such hazards in the future. After a few shots, the pursuer flips into the front half of the screen to force the player to change screen position again, but doing so also opens them up to the front-facing weapons of the player.

The goal of The Pursuer is to fall on the far end of the Movement side of the gameplay-focus spectrum. the player can't really deal with the threat until it has made its movement to the other side of the screen, making the focus of the arena mainly stay to dodging attacks. The pinwheels that accompany the pursuers act as additional challenges; ignoring them provides a much harder set of projectiles to dodge, and trying to kill them forces a tighter space to move around in, which allows pursuers to lock on and even fire at the player.

I also started experimenting with different projectiles, speeds, and colors. The Pursuer shoots much slower than the pinwheel, but fires larger and faster-moving projectiles to make up for this.
